From the dense jungles enveloping the mighty Amazon, to the mountainous terrain on the southern coastline, to the many miles of beautiful sandy beaches, Brazil has something for everyone. This is a monster of a country, larger than Europe, with some great sights - from Sugar Loaf Mountain - to Foz do Iguacu, pretty towns - from Rio to Curitiba, lively locals who really like to play, lots of sun, excellent beaches and wildlife, and mostly at a low cost.
You can enjoy the five-star hotels, shopping malls, beautiful beaches, sunny skies and inspirational restaurants without being forced to confront the hundreds of shanty towns (favelas) where the poorest of the poor scratch a living in the shadows of the skyscrapers. Brazilian people and their culture is what makes Brazil a great destination. The four day festivities of the world-renowned Carnival, held around late-February, are a fantastic attraction for many travellers.
The most interesting places to visit in Brazil include Fernando de Noronha Island, Rio de Janeiro and Sao tome the two bustling megacities of the South, the more relaxed city of Salvador in the north, or the old colonial towns of Ouro preto and Olinda . For natural beauty, try a visit to Iguaçu falls . If you have the chance the best time to visit is Carnival. There is nothing in the whole wide world like Carnival in Rio. Activities Guide:
Wildlife walks: Amazon of course, though most beasties come out at night and you wouldn't want to walk then. Also the Pantanal, tho' a canoe may be better there.
Bird watching: The Pantanal.
River travel: Up the Amazon, whether on posh tour boats or local craft.
Surfing: near Rio and to the south in Santa Caterina state.
Fishing: inland river fishing is especially interesting.e.g. Rio Araguaia
Hangliding: over Rio!
Rock climbing: near Rio and in some national parks
Hiking: All along the coast.
